TATTOO AFTERCARE
A simple guide for proper healing & lasting results
-
Your tattoo will be covered with Derm Shield also known as Second Skin.
Leave this bandage on for 2–3 days.
During this time:
• Your tattoo may release ink and plasma under the bandage — this is normal
• Avoid excessive sweating
• Avoid swimming, baths, hot tubs, or saunas
• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight
• Tight clothing rubbing the tattoo
• Quick showers are fine
Do not remove the bandage early unless it becomes damaged or leaking.
-
I recommend using fragrance-free products to clean and moisturize your new tattoo once you remove the Derm Shield.
Use this time to purchase any of the following products:
SOAPS
• Dr. Bronner’s Baby Unscented
• Dial Gold Antibacterial
LOTIONS
• CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion
• Lubriderm Daily Moisture
Discontinue Immediately if you see any signs of an allergic reaction to these products.
-
After 2–3 days, remove the bandage and gently clean your new tattoo.
Best Method:
Take a warm shower
Slowly peel the bandage downward
Move slowly to avoid irritating the skin
Once the bandage is removed:
Use a fragrance-free antibacterial soap
Gently clean using your fingertips only
Rinse with lukewarm water
Pat dry with a clean paper towel
Apply a thin layer of moisturizer
Avoid using washcloths, sponges, bar soaps and hot water. Using too much lotion can affect the final results and slow healing.
-
For the next 10–14 days:
Clean and moisturize your tattoo 2–3 times a day.
Your tattoo may:
Peel
Flake
Feel itchy (Do not pick or scratch)
This is completely normal.
Do not apply:
• Vaseline
• Alcohol
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Scented lotions
-
Healing happens in stages and may vary based on your skin sensitivity & overall health.
Days 1–3
Tattoo may feel tender and slightly swollen
Days 4–10
Peeling and light flaking begin
Days 10–14
Skin settles and itching decreases
Full healing:
Approximately 3–4 weeks
Large or heavy tattoos may take longer.
-
Once healed, apply SPF sunscreen, keep your skin moisturized, and avoid excessive sun exposure. This keeps your tattoo bold, vibrant, and long-lasting.
